Sight loss affects 36,000 children and young adults in the UK. Sadly, without the right support, many of them face a future of poverty and loneliness.
90% of those who lose their sight in youth will never have a long term job, and most will never have someone to share their life with.
At RSBC, we believe that no child in the UK should grow up to be poor or lonely just because they are blind.
We want to create a better life for blind children, by helping every one of them to find and fulfil their own unique potential.
We believe that we can do this by giving every single blind child the opportunity to be seen by a sight loss specialist as soon as they are told they have lost their sight, to offer them and their families practical advice, emotional support, and guidance for the future.
There is currently no NHS or statutory service in the UK that consistently delivers this kind of specialist support to blind children and their families.
Every day, four more children in the UK are diagnosed with sight loss. But at the moment we are only able to help 10% of those that need us.
We need to raise £3 million to recruit and train a team of RSBC sight loss specialists across the UK. This will allow us to increase the number of children we support from 1,500 to 11,000 over the next three years.
But we can only succeed with the help and generosity of supporters like you.
With your help, we can ensure that every blind child reaches their potential, and that every family has the opportunity to understand, adjust to and live beyond sight loss.
