RSBC’s Terrible Thames adventure

We recently organised a fun ‘Horrible Histories’ boat trip on the Thames for vision impaired children, young people, and their families. It was a whistlestop tour of the River Thames, filled with lots of unusual facts and stories brought to life by the cast and crew.

The life of a Family Practitioner: Jeanette’s story

Jeanette’s worked for RSBC for more than 3 years, covering the North East of England. As a Family Practitioner, she supports families with blind and partially sighted children and young people, helping them to overcome challenges by developing improved resilience, wellbeing and coping strategies. Exploring music and storytelling for vision impaired children

We recently held two music sessions at Southwark libraries that brought joy and creativity to young people. We read from the book ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’ and got them to play different instruments, creating weather sounds. Check out our video from the event.

Independent living skills – cooking

Recently, we put on an independent living skills cookery session for a group of blind and partially sighted children and young people at our Life Without Limits Centre. The session was led by a Habilitation Specialist, Anna, who ensured it was suitable for complete beginners and those with some cooking experience.

Sports sessions with VI young people

We have a range of free and fun sports & fitness sessions for young people who are blind or have a vision impairment. The sessions are hosted by some incredible coaches: Palace for Life Foundation and Bloomsbury Football.

The many benefits of music and play for vision impaired children

We collaborated with The Amber Trust to host a music workshop at our Life Without Limits Centre (LWLC) for children aged 0-7 who have a vision impairment. Our centre was filled with the rich sounds of excited children and parents singing and moving along to call-and-response songs and inclusive and creative music games.

Lando Norris F1 helmet auction

A massive thank you to McLaren Formula 1 Driver Lando Norris, who auctioned the incredible hand-painted Herend Porcelain Manufactory helmet he wore in qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July. All proceeds support RSBC and the Hungarian National Association of the Blind.
