Starting playgroup or nursery

Most vision impaired children are able to go to a mainstream playgroup or nursery. This can help them with:

  • confidence
  • learning
  • how to mix with others
  • how to get around in new places

If your child has a QTVI, they can work with you to help find a nursery that can support your child.

You may need to:

  • give them a little more time to settle
  • help the nursery to work out all the things that are available
  • get to know well, your child’s ‘key person’ who is responsible for their care

RSBC’s Family Support Service can help you with:

  • practical advice about your child’s development
  • support when you feel overwhelmed
  • understanding your child’s vision impairment better
  • living as a family and being supportive of each other
