Professionals quotes/stories

“I honestly don’t know how we (or families) managed before this Service came along.  Having therapeutic support for our young people and their families has been invaluable and I only wish it had been available years ago.  It feels very much like we are working from the same page, like an extended team, with the common aim of wanting the best start in life for our young VI people.   Whilst always maintaining client confidentiality, there is excellent communication between RSBC and our Service which has been great both practically and in terms of individually-focussed provision for our young VI people.”  [QTVI North Wales]

“I know mum is incredibly appreciative of everything you have done for the family and whatever you are still helping them out with.” [Social Worker N London]

To RSBC,

Thank you so much for your support. I have now dealt with three teenagers unexpectedly losing their sight. The effect on the whole family is devastating, affecting every aspect of daily life. Officially I am supposed to support children’s educational needs, but until now I have been the only familiar person involved who has been able to open doors and signpost support. I have no problems in using my initiative to find services offering sporting and social opportunities, emotional support, blue badges, DLA applications, respite etc, but I just don’t have enough time to follow everything through, and no access to financial resources at all.

The Family Practitioner has started supporting the family of a 13 year old who has just lost all of his sight. I was really struggling to answer all of the questions, to teach him braille and ensure that he had everything possible in school, leaving little time for home problems. When I told the family practitioner  about the challenges and difficulties she has said ‘leave it to me’. It is so reassuring to have someone else involved, and mum is totally accepting of the help, which has changed her attitude to authority.  [Teacher of blind and partially sighted Children in Worcestershire]

“This young person has now settled in to school after a very anxious start, a situation full of complexities. The work of all professionals involved, including the support from the RSBC, has made all the difference. Working together at it’s best!”

“Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your support.  Even more so at the moment as I am unable to get hold of many of my contacts due to the current situation.  I do feel like I keep throwing things your way but you always rise to the challenge!  Saying that, I’m about to make another referral to you this afternoon…

Thank you so much”
