Choosing Childcare
If you choose to use childcare you have multiple choices including Childminders, Nannies, family or a local nursery. Whatever your choice, your Qualified Teacher of Visually Impaired children can support you. They may know of a local establishment that currently has a baby with a visual impairment attending and therefore has good knowledge of ways to stimulate development and care for baby. They can also visit the childcare placement to ensure they have access to any training necessary and that the environment is safely adapted for your baby’s growing needs.
For your baby to fully benefit from this placement you may need to support your baby and nursery for a short time to allow them both to settle. It may help to also meet regularly initially to answer any questions that they may have whilst they are getting to know your baby.
We have our Families First team of trained Family Practitioners who can support you through these early months and years to help you feel confident with your child’s diagnosis and future.
