Dorton College uses a ‘hybrid’ approach to vision impairment (VI) education, so that students receive the very best specialist education together with all the opportunities of mainstream and wider specialist settings.

Blind and partially sighted students at RSBC Dorton College are enjoying their new College Hub at the LSEC Orpington Campus building. RSBC Dorton College is the only specialist college for vision impaired young people (aged 16-25) in the south east. The College has been steadily increasing student numbers at Orpington. This year we have 20 vision impaired students: achieving our target number of students two years ahead of schedule. The new space will provide for further growth in future years.

On Wednesday 4th January 2023, students at RSBC Dorton College celebrated World Braille Day at the Orpington Campus, The Walnuts, Orpington, BR6 0TE. Students enjoyed taking part in fun activities. They played Braille Uno and learned Transport signs in braille.

When students are planning on leaving school and progressing into further education, it can be a daunting time. Although there are many SEN providers in the London and Southeast region, Dorton College is the only vision impairment (VI) specialist further education provider in this area.

Based in the London Borough of Bromley, Dorton College students attend from across London and its adjoining counties in the southeast of England. At Dorton, we work closely with a range of partnership colleges, from mainstream general further education colleges, sixth forms and specialist settings to vocational providers, to ensure that students get the very best from their time with us.

Dorton College is RSBC’s independent specialist college based in the London Borough of Bromley. We’re the only independent specialist further education provider for vision impaired young people in these areas, and offer day provision for vision impaired 16 to 25-year-olds. Our students come to us from across London and the South East region, and many have additional needs.
