Volunteer opportunities

Volunteer to be a part of #TeamRSBC and cheer on our London Marathon runners on Sunday 27th April 2025!

All we need you to bring is bags of enthusiasm and your best cheering voice. We want the best atmosphere for our runners who have raised a lot of money to support the work we do. Our two cheer points on the London Marathon route will be on the North Colonnade in Canary Wharf and on Lower Thames Street at Monument. You can volunteer as many hours as you’d like between 10 am and 5 pm.

And why not bring your family, friends or work colleagues along for the fun? We’ll provide a full event briefing and you’ll be supported throughout the day by the RSBC team.

Our amazing Activity Volunteers play a key role in supporting blind children and young people to take part in a variety of activities. These range from sports, creative (singing, performing, art), audiobook club and day trips. Our activities are designed for blind young people to meet new friends, gain confidence, learn new skills/sports, and become more independent. The skills you have developed in your career and personal life will be invaluable to our young people.

Activities are either London-based or online.

What does the role involve?

Online activities:

• support the session timetable
• facilitate the communication and social interaction between participants
• encourage members of the group to participate and share their opinions

Face-to-face activities

• 1:1 sighted guiding from and to public transport locations
• practical support onsite
• supporting the sessions
• facilitate social interaction between the participants

Currently, sessions are run both during the week (mostly in the afternoon) and at weekends (usually on a Saturday). Activity volunteering is a flexible commitment, and you will be able to sign up for the session you like and when you have time. It really is up to you and your availability.

Our amazing Community Volunteers play a key role in championing RSBC’s work and raising vital funds to help blind children live a life without limits. Whether you’re looking to offer your extensive skills to a charitable cause, or wanting to develop new skills and improve your CV and employability, volunteering with RSBC will make a real difference to your own life and the lives of the 37,000 blind and partially sighted children in England and Wales.

With your support, we can do even more to help them develop independence, make friends and build skills for life.

What does the role involve?

You’ll be fundraising and helping RSBC by:

• Organising events
• Collecting cheques
• Liaising with local groups (e.g. Lions/Rotary Clubs)
• Completing a personal challenge

You’ll also be championing our vital work by:

• Giving talks about our work
• Sharing RSBC news with people you know
• Recruiting volunteers/supporters to join Team RSBC
• Connecting with your local networks

RSBC and its different departments often need additional office-based help from skilled volunteers. It could be in anything from marketing to fundraising, data entry to research, or even administration like sorting our mailings. These volunteer opportunities come up a few times a year and can be a flexible, for example, a commitment of just a few days or a much longer arrangement. Depending on the opportunity, office volunteering can be carried out from your own home or from our office in Central London.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop a broad set of skills in an office environment and contribute towards making a real and positive change in blind children’s lives.
