The 3 Peaks Blind Fundraising Team

RSBC supported Matt Lee’s daughter Alexa, who has brittle corneas, a very rare condition which means that she will eventually become blind. In return, Matt wanted to support the charity. He joined forces with his friends Oliver, Doran, Ben, Ross, and Jason, and together they decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. That involved hiking over 28 miles in 24 hours but, as if this wasn’t challenging enough, Matt was blindfolded the entire time! Not only did the team raise over £25,000 for RSBC, but they also raised awareness by appearing on ITV News to talk about the challenge, the current perception of sight loss, and the work RSBC do.

Matt had no idea that he and the rest of the team had been shortlisted for an RSBC award, and he was in Dubai with Alexa on a short break when we announced that they’d won at our awards ceremony. Luckily, he joined the event by video link, and so he was able to celebrate this amazing achievement with us.
