On Thursday 27th October 2022, RSBC held its “Autumnal Family Fun Day” at the Life Without Limits Centre (LWLC) in London. Blind and partially sighted children, young people and their families were invited to take part in various activities in a friendly, Halloween inspired atmosphere.
It was a great opportunity for everyone to socialise, be creative, learn new skills and have fun through activities like:
- Pumpkin carving
- Creative play with Lego
- Online gaming
- Playing music
- Listening to a spooky audio book
- Cooking
Pumpkin carving
Our talented pumpkin carvers got a chance to get spooky and creative! It was great to see different pumpkin designs which were then displayed in the Atrium, filling the centre with unique Halloween decoration.
Getting creative with Lego
Playing Lego is a great way to encourage creativity. Participants used their imagination to bring to life anything they wanted, building creativity through the process. The table inside the Creative suite, was a hive of activity and full of colourful Lego creations and playful children. Even parents seemed to enjoy getting creative with Lego too!
Playing music
Making the most of the creative suite , everyone was free to play instruments like the drums or electric guitars and express themselves. It was great to see how children and young people engaged with the different instruments, taking part in a music jam!
Connecting online with friends
In the Learning hub, video game enthusiasts were able to use tech and connect with friends. They had a chance to get competitive and learn online gaming tips with Alex, our Assistive Technology Officer. Everyone enjoyed the online gaming session.
Fun cooking activity
Pizza lovers enjoyed this activity as they had the opportunity to make their own pizza and develop their cooking skills. It was a great way to learn some life-skills and see the children and young people boost their confidence about cooking in a safe and fun environment. The kitchen was filled with budding chefs trying to make the perfect pizza with different combinations of ingredients. Then of course they all enjoyed eating them.
Listening to a spooky story
To finish off the day, everyone got together to listen to a spooky short story, a little taster of our Audio Book Club. After a busy day this session was just what we all needed.
