Recruiting people with vision impairment

By law your recruitment policy must be inclusive, a disabled job applicant must not be disadvantaged within the recruitment process.

To encourage people with disabilities to apply for jobs you can:

  1. focus on the skills needed for the job
  2. try not to make assumptions about who can do the job
  3. stay open to the idea of employing someone with a vision impairment
  4. use the ‘disability confident’ symbol to show that you encourage applications from disabled people
  5. say that you welcome applications from everyone and value diversity
  6. offer disabled people the chance to do work experience, this will also help your workforce to overcome any preconceptions they have
